Hey there!
You might have noticed a couple of months of silence about my projects. Well, I wasn’t doing nothing. I was diving back deep into the world of programming and created a little app called OH MY GOSH Brush.
It’s an app that allows you to draw in 3D on your iPad.
Take a look at this little trailer:
By the way, if you want to participate, or just have fun with an ALPHA version of the app, you can get access by filling out this form: https://forms.gle/w76yN9JA2PRJvyTRA
I always loved the simplicity of working on the iPad. You just open it up and you can be creative within seconds. Once I got my first iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil, my time spent animating skyrocketed. It just removed all the friction to get started.
I wanted the same for 3D.
There are other awesome 3D tools for the iPad. Apps like Shapr3D and NomadSculpt bring professional-level tools into the hands of iPad users. Those apps are awesome!
But, I wanted to take OH MY GOSH Brush in a different direction:
It’s 3D with a handmade aesthetic.
It’s 3D but fun and explorative.
It’s 3D but expressive like a traditional art tool.
The main design philosophy consists of the following ideas:
Simple, yet powerful
Easy to pick up and draw
Drawing in 3D is not a novel idea. In fact, I got inspired by amazing tools that are way more powerful than what I have created so far. Tools like Blender’s GreasePencil and QuillVR, a 3D drawing and animation app in VR.
The Roadmap for OMGBrush
Moving forward I wanted to get the early version of the app into the hands of real users! That’s why I’m launching this ALPHA now.
By becoming an early tester, you can also take part in shaping the final product. I have a huge backlog of ideas when it comes to features, but I am more excited to see what other people make with the app and what they are missing.
The next couple of months will be mostly dedicated to getting the app stable and creating the most basic features to make it a viable product.
There will be a page where you can track the progress and roadmap of features, and where you can give feedback, and hopefully even vote on features. (Any suggestions for an app that allows for that? At the moment I’m thinking Trello.)
The current “getting started” page gives people an intro to the app and how to give feedback. Join the alpha via this form.
I’m excited to see more users trying the app.
I am also excited to see people posting about it on social media. Would be nice if you tag the posts with #omgbrush and #ohmygoshbrush, and also tag me — I’m @justgoscha on most platforms (TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, X/Twitter).
Here’s another trailer that shows some earlier versions of the app:
Cheers,
Goscha
